Artists on Elgin

ART ABOUT TOWN
The Northern Artist Gallery’s external exhibition project, Art about Town has made a home with its TDS 4th floor exhibition space. It features art work from various artists of AoE. It is located on the 4th Floor of the Tom Davies Square. The exhibition is changed every three months and features great new work from our member artists. Additionally Art about Town has added a second exhibition space in the office of Glenn Thibault MP (Sudbury Riding). This project brings locally created art into the public domainand allows artists to share their passion and connect with the community. The exhibition spaces have been very well received. Thank you to everyone who has shared their appreciation with us. Also coming in the month of March is the ‘Junior Citizens Break into the Arts’ week. Two AoE artists will be running workshops during the March break; Jenny Latrielle (Jewellery) and Alison Storey (Prints). The children’s artwork will be on display in the AoE gallery from Thursday March 19th until the end of the Month. A reception will be held for the junior artists on Friday March 20th.
In a world where change seems the only constant, The AoE community is planning for the future. An forum exploring who we are and what the future holds will take place on Tuesday, March 3rd at the TDS. The purpose of this gathering is to engage the artistic community in a creative dialogue, discussing the benefits, challenges and direction of Artists on Elgin. Refreshments and food will be served. For more details about this event please refer to the invitations that were sent out earlier this month.

Art Gallery of Sudbury

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ART GALLERY OF SUDBURY APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR SUDBURY, Ontario, January 9, 2009

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is very happy to announce that it has recently appointed Karen Tait-Peacock as the new Director of the Gallery and has promoted Krysta Telenko, formerly Curatorial Assistant at the Gallery, to the position of Curator. Karen returned to Sudbury two years ago after working in Toronto for a number of different organizations including Frontier College, a national literacy organization, as Manager of Corporate and Foundation Giving. Prior to moving to Toronto in 2001, Karen was a long time resident of Walden who owned her own fundraising and marketing business for more than five years, working with such organizations as Easter Seals Sudbury, the Older Adults Centre and the Scott Tournament of Hearts. She has more than 16 years experience working in the non-profit sector. “The AGS continues to play a key role in the community and the arts and culture scene in the City of Greater Sudbury and I am especially motivated to assist the AGS to capitalize on opportunities during this exciting time in our city’s history. My vision for the Art Gallery of Sudbury would be to see it continue to grow and thrive, encompassing the community further into its fold,” said Tait-Peacock. Krysta Telenko has been with the Art Gallery of Sudbury for the past three years, beginning as a FedNor Youth intern working as curatorial assistant. “I’m excited for all the new challenges and opportunities, as I begin my new role at the AGS as Curator” said Krysta. Krysta studied Museum Studies at Algonquin College in Ottawa and Art History at Concordia University in Montreal. In addition to her new role, Krysta also manages the Permanent Collection, acquisitions and the Art Sales and Rental Program. Alan Nursall commented that “as the new Chair of the Board of Directors for the Art Gallery of Sudbury, I am so pleased to welcome Karen to our organization and also to promote from within such an outstanding staff member as Krysta.”

Art Gallery of Sudbury
Art Gallery of Sudbury The Art Gallery of Sudbury was established in 1967 as a Centennial project of the Sudbury and District Chamber of Commerce. Originally operating as the Laurentian University Museum and Art Centre, the gallery was incorporated in 1997. Housed in a turn of the century mansion, the former residence of lumber baron William Joseph Bell, the gallery has a unique architectural appeal. Local history and contemporary works of art come together in the lush surroundings of the Gallery grounds. Our exciting exhibitions, lecture series, art classes and special events make the gallery a gathering place for the local community. The Art Gallery is open to the public year round. GEMS FOUND THROUGHOUT LIVELY; CELEBRATION SCHEDULED

Best Folk Artist 2008 Angie Nussey to perform for “Gems” at Fielding Park

When Angie Nussey came home to Lively in September to perform as part of the SCARF tour, she brought along with her a movie camera to film her music video “Gem”.

What she captured, was over 40 precious people from the community willing to star in the hometown version of the cross-Canada video project which can now airing on Nussey’s web site (www.angienussey.com) and on YouTube.

“There was never any doubt that Lively had to be one of the first cities we shot the video in,” said Nussey. “The support I’ve always received from them gave me further incentive to show off all of my beautiful hometown people in the video”.

Now, nearly two months later and as part of her Ontario Tour, “A Night in Comfortable Shoes”, Nussey is returning to play a show for her “Gems” and the rest of the community at Fielding Park on Sunday, November 23rd. The Lively performance follows Nussey’s show on Manitoulin Island at Café in the Woods on Saturday, November 22nd.

The show will also feature the great talents of local musician, Matt Foy, and local visual artist, Debra Lynn Ireland.

There is limited seating and tickets ($15) are only available at the door on the night of the show beginning at 6:30pm (show starts at 7pm sharp). For Details see www.angienussey.com.
